Nevada on the surface is mostly desert. The desert is an adventure just waiting for you to discover. You can travel a little off the beaten path find a little creek and be amazed at what a little water and mother nature can create. The desert in Nevada has rock formations that have stood thousands of years and some wild flowers that bloom once every ten years.

Travel to the Great Basin National Park and you can visit the unspoiled Lehman Caves and view what is underground in the desert. Lehman caves are full of stalagmites formations courtesy of mother nature. The caves are a way to cool down and view what is going on underneath the barren desert.

The Great Basin is 200,000 square miles you will want to take some time here and discover the hiking trails in climbing to the top will take you up 13,000 feet from the valley floor. You will discover streams, creeks, alpine meadows and a reprieve from the desert. The Great Basin water drains underground and scientist have no idea where the water ends up.

You need to plan on spending the night if you want to be able to view the milky way without use of a telescope. It takes you back in time to when man looked at the skies and wondered can such beauty be dangerous?

The Paiute Tribe own Pyramid Lake the jewel in the desert. The adventure traveler can kick back on the sandy shores and relax. The lake is famous for its cutthroat trout that can grow up to forty pounds.

Bring your binoculars and telephoto lens and take pictures from the shore of Anaho Island. The island remains off limits to humans, it is one of the only nesting sites in North America for Pelicans.

Hike around a bit in the area and discover the animals that inhabit the area. The only water source for many miles you could stumble upon deer, antelope, big horn sheep and migrating water fowl.

Discover by starting a travel adventure in Nevada that it is more than a desert. The landscape can be an adventure of the undiscovered mysteries.
