Adventure Travel Utah
Most people have heard of Utah's beauty. They have also heard the rumors about its backwardness. I live in Utah and admire the beauty of the state and disagree with most of its political views. The adventurer who travels to Utah will be amazed at the diversity of the landscape and its people. When I arrived here thirty years ago I found it a very different place than it is today. Now I have gotten that off my chest lets get down to the adventure. I don't normally write more than one article per state. I know too much to not share with everyone the diversity of the landscape here. I am writing a series of three articles about the state. Utah is a state with extreme weather conditions that vary from season to season. For all you snow boarders and skiers yes, we have the greatest snow on earth. The best time to visit if you don't enjoy snow unless your visiting the south is from May through early October otherwise expect cold weather. Adventure Vacation Northern Utah the northern part of Utah is Mountainous with high desert plains. There is a large wilderness area here called the High Uintas. This area of Utah can be reached on paved highway and dirt road. The Aztecs used to roam here through the meadows of wild flowers, trees, ferns. Hike a trail and you will find vistas to the horizon. Camping in the wilderness area is by back pack only but, on a hot summer day the Uintas is where I like to head out to. The Wasatch Front Mountains offer granite cliffs for the rock climber in you. This is a water shed area and the streams and reservoirs are protected no dogs allowed. The Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons offer many hiking options if you feel like a work out but the sweet smell of the forest will travel into your car through open windows. Traveling to Park City through the Little Cottonwood Canyon you can take a drive to Park City enjoy a gourmet meal and take the freeway back. Once in Park City you are close to the Uintas and you can always spend the night with many hotel selections. They are less expensive in the summer. From here you can travel east and travel into the Uinta Basin. The oil drilling capitol of Utah. There is a Dinosaur Museum in Vernal you may want to take a peek. Before you travel to the Mountains outside of town. Flaming Gorge is popular with the locals and you can take a serene rafting trip down the Green River. Along the way you will see fresh water otters, birds and deer. You can rent a raft and enjoy a few hours looking at the rock formations and wildlife floating down the river. When you travel to northern Utah you will be pleasantly surprised. You will find many places to discover along the way.
