Adventure travel into the wilderness of West Virginia where the rivers are wild and history and mountains will surround you. See virgin forest of hemlock that are five hundred years old. White water raft down the Cheat River noted for its exceptional beauty.

In the northern part of West Virginia you can travel along the Historic National Road. The road was established in 1849 and has just what every history buff desires a view into history. You can travel across the Ohio River on Wheeling Bridge and visit Wheeling Island.

Feeling up to the best white water in the East? Travel to the Cheat River where you will have thirteen miles of the best adventure on white water an adventure traveler could ask for. There are no roads to the gorge in the river that will give you a thrill ride that you will remember for years, with its boulders, wildlife and adrenaline rush.

Take the Highland Scenic Trail road and the word scenic does not do this road justice. You will be traveling through forty miles of mountainous terrain with winding road views you can see for miles and miles. Along the way you travel through Monogahela Forest, you can camp at summit lake, hike through a carpet of wildflowers at Falls of the Hills scenic area, visit bogs at the Cranberry Glades Botanical area, finding solitude at the end of the trail at Cranberry Wilderness Area.

Civil War history buffs will want to travel the Camp Allegheny Backway to get the best views, the road is gravel and off the beaten path. Winding through dense forest, treating you to breathtaking views from the top of the mountain and through meadows of wildflowers. Camp Allegheny a Confederate Civil War camp sits on top of the mountain and Camp Bartow earthworks can be seen along the way.

Bluestone Gorge is a national scenic highway for fifty two miles you will travel along the nine hundred foot gorge along the Greenbriar River. Stopping along the way at Pipestem State Park where the views of the mountains will take you aback. You can take the Aerial Tramway and get views from high above. Hike the twenty miles of hiking trails in the area and enjoy a close up view of the bounty of nature in the area. Adventure by horseback overnight with one of the outfitters here and feel as you have traveled back to a simpler time.
